Ever since Keirsey, a Rational himself, published Please Understand Me II in , it has generally been accepted that the Idealists are the best partners for the Rationals. This appears to be true–at least from the Rational point of view. But Rationals are the second favorite choice for the Idealists. And if we accept the fact that Rationals tend to be overcritical and depress their perceived satisfaction, it may be that Rationals actually like Idealists even more. It appears that Artisans are delighted with Rationals, but Rationals are ambivalent about Artisans and Sensors in general. The Guardians for their part are simply not that satisfied with either Rationals or Idealists, but really go for other Sensors. It would seem that for Rationals, the Idealists generally make the most satisfying temperament pairing. This is a generalization that may or may not apply to all Rational types. One further thing that should be noted here is that the Rationals reported a narrow range of satisfaction compared to other types. Perhaps coincidentally, perhaps not, this is one of the two “ideal” types predicted by Keirsey in the original version of “Please Understand Me.

Being an INFJ is as close as a human might come to being empathic.

As it turns out, Idealists pair best with other idealists. As fellow idealists, the INFJ and ENFP are on the same wavelength in terms of their fondness for new possibilities and their soulful quest for fulfillment and meaning in almost all aspects of their lives. They share similar qualities but also a number of distinct differences.

INFJ could contextualize the INTP — the miracle it seeks. Meanwhile, the INTP would be charmed by the weirdness and grace of the INFJ. INTP is dominated by introverted thinking (a skill INFJ also has), but this function causes INTP to ACT frequently, jumping into thoughts and ready for battle.

Consequently, they sometimes find the external world pales in comparison. This may result in a lack of motivation to form and maintain relationships. INTPs are not likely to have a very large circle of significant relationships in their lives. They’re much more likely to have a few very close relationships, which they hold in great esteem and with great affection. Since the INTP’s primary focus and attention is turned inwards, aimed towards seeking clarity from abstract ideas, they are not naturally tuned into others’ emotional feelings and needs.

They tend to be difficult to get to know well, and hold back parts of themselves until the other person has proven themselves “worthy” of hearing the INTP’s thoughts.

We embody the suppression of emotion, not the expression of it. We can be so matter-of-fact and hard-headed that it’s difficult to imagine us doing something as frivolous as falling in love. At the same time, we want a relationship. We know that we’re pretty darned outstanding as relationship material, just too awkward to play the dating game.

Is there a way around this conundrum? Here are some tips to help the socially-challenged INTJ navigate the turbulent waters of romance, whatever the status of their relationship. Words matter INTJs inhabit a world that resembles Downton Abbey – cold on the outside, but there’s always something spicy percolating beneath. Problem is, we have not yet developed any sort of vocabulary to describe what’s going on in our hearts.

It’s not cheap for us to love someone, and we’re often fearful of attaching value to mere “feelings” in case they turn out to be fleeting. Most INTJs won’t admit to caring for someone until they are completely sure it’s genuine. By then our feelings are so obvious to us that we don’t think they’re worth mentioning.

To the outside observer, it might seem that this would present some challenges for the INTP when it comes to the dating scene. And it might, that is, if they cared about pleasing types who found their oddities unappealing. Fortunately for them, they tend to be attracted to and attract personalities that absolutely love their quirks.

Thus, the world of love actually can be an easier place for them to navigate than many types. There, they are likely to catch the eye of some NF or NT who appreciates their vivid imaginations, slicing wit, and intelligent discourse.

They often become uncomfortable if their loved one is going to others for things that they can easily provide for them. If they feel like they are being phased out, or are no longer appreciated they may become jealous.

However, they may have trouble following through with day to day chores and responsibilities. Thinking and Feeling A thinker and a feeler can make for an interesting dynamic.
